Position: Injection Molding Process Engineer
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer specializing in Injection Molding to support the development and production of high-performance plastic components. This role involves establishing, optimizing, and maintaining injection molding processes all while conforming to Tri-Mack quality and customer specifications.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and validate robust and repeatable injection molding processes for injection molding department.
- Work with Production Support, New Product Introduction (NPI) and Process Improvement (IMP) engineering groups to perform process optimization using manufacturing process sheets and scientific molding.
- Establish and maintain scientific molding parameters to ensure consistency, precision, and traceability; Monitor cycle times, scrap rates, and material usage.
- Collaborate with tooling, materials, and quality teams to ensure designs meet dimensional and performance requirements under AS9100 standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot process issues (e.g., porosity, flash, short shots, burn marks).
- Implement process improvements to increase yield, reduce cycle times, and optimize part quality while meeting Tri-Mack standards.
- Interface with customers and internal stakeholders during technical reviews, audits, and qualification runs.
- Collaborate with the Injection Molding Supervisor to implement production process improvements.
- Provide daily technical support to resolve molding-related issues.
- Participate in daily MRB meetings to address non-conforming products.
- Drive cost-reduction efforts through material usage optimization and cycle time reduction.
- Support preventive maintenance activities for molds and related tooling.
- Evaluate mold performance and recommend repair or replacement strategies.
- Assist in the specification and procurement of new injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment.
- Generate technical reports on process performance, trial outcomes, and validations.
- Monitor safety continuously to ensure the safety of yourself as well as your co-workers.
- Adhere to all ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements.
- Conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner and always follow Tri-Mack Values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Accountability and Durability.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- College degree in Engineering; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience in an injection molding manufacturing environment required
- Proficient in blueprint and inspection report interpretation; GD&T experience preferred
- Proficient in mechanical inspection techniques including micrometer, dial caliper, optical comparator, drop indicators, and special quality fixturing
- Experience with CAD design, SolidWorks preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Some experience with Lean and/or Six-Sigma preferred
- Strong written and oral communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and strong attention to detail
- Flexible, work with a high sense of urgency, and able to get along well with others
